In an effort to recognize area students' academic achievements, Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C. are pleased to announce a new scholarship program. The Bremer & Trollop Scholar of the Month program recognizes seniors who demonstrate excellence in a core curriculum area. The nine high schools participating in the Scholar of the Month Program are Wausau West, Lakeland Union, SPASH, D.C. Everest, Rhinelander, Mosinee, Marshfield, Antigo, and Wausau East.
To be eligible, the student must be a senior and be selected by his or her instructors based on the quality of the work that has been completed by the student in the core curricular areas.
Each high school and its student scholar will be recognized through numerous promotions aired on Charter cable television during their designated month. In addition to this public recognition, the student scholar will be presented with a monetary scholarship at the close of the 2008-2009 school year.

Julia Ebert, a senior at Wausau East High School, has been selected as the May Scholar of the Month by Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C.
Julia, a full International Baccalaureate diploma candidate, is recognized for her work within the classroom and without. She is a respected member of her class who is an integral part of the women’s curling team, band, German Club, Link Crew, Tech Crew, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is also involved with the Mayor’s Youth Action Council.

Elisa Prebble, a senior at Marshfield High School, has been selected as the March Scholar of the Month by Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C.
Elisa is first in her class of 378 students. She has participated for three years on the National Ocean Sciences Bowl team, and is a member of the National Science Bowl team, Science Olympiad team, the Green Team and Health Occupation Students of America team. She holds the Girl Scout’s Gold Award, is an active participant in the Governor’s Conference on the Environment, volunteers at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, has assisted area wildlife biologists tracking the effects logging has on the porcupine population, and has spent several weeks working on sea turtle conservation initiatives on Jekyll Island, Georgia and Matura, Trinidad.

Ashley Soppe, a senior at Mosinee Senior High School, has been selected as the February Scholar of the Month by Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C.
Ashley was nominated by the faculty of Mosinee High School for her outstanding academic performance and achievements outside the classroom. Although carrying a rigorous course load during her senior year, Ashley maintains a 4.0 GPA. She is currently enrolled in the Youth Apprenticeship program, working in the pediatric ward at St. Claire’s Hospital in Weston. Ashley plans to become a pediatric physician.

Emily Heideman, a senior at Rhinelander Senior High School, has been selected as the January Scholar of the Month by Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C.
Emily has been selected for her leadership skills and academic, athletic and extracurricular achievements. Ranked first in her class, Emily has attended the Badger Girls State and Rotary Youth Leadership Conferences. She has been a member of the MOCK Trial Team for four years and, last year, was a member of the Trial Team that placed third in state. Emily is a member of the tennis team and has twice qualified for the Division 1 doubles state tennis tournament. This year Emily and her doubles partner finished seventh in Wisconsin.

Pete Newton, School Counselor, collected a wide range of praise for Ms. Pagel from her teachers and peers. She is noted for her leadership qualities, her strong sense of community, her ability to work through difficult situations and for consistently performing to the best of her abilities.

Dylan McHugh, a senior at Stevens Point Area Senior High School, is recognized as the November Scholar of the Month by Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C.
“Dylan is a highly motivated, hard-working individual,” notes school counselor Laura Blaska. “These qualities not only contribute to his own success, but also extend to other students. His teachers see that he is always assisting others with difficult material. His work ethic and leadership in the classroom have had a positive impact on his classmates, helping them to succeed as well.”
Dylan has participated in a wide range of school-related activities — serving on the SPASH Team Leadership Council and playing on the football, basketball and baseball teams. Dylan is also very active in the community — helping coach Little League, participating in the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign, and assisting with Little Panthers Basketball and the UW-Stevens Point Baseball Camp.
Dylan is the son of Tom and Kristin McHugh of Plover.
Hannah Weiss, a senior at Lakeland Union High School, has been selected as the October Scholar of the Month by Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C.
Kathleen Peterson, German Instructor at Lakeland Union High School, notes, “Although excelling in the language since her freshman year, Hannah continues to strive for the best and has always made learning her first priority.” Ranked first in her senior class, Hannah is known for her willingness to help others, according to Ms. Peterson.
“She is very motivated and always contributes one hundred percent,” concludes Peterson. Hannah’s extracurricular activities include soccer, skiing, German Club, and Student Council.
Hannah is the daughter of Matthias and Kristen Weiss of Minocqua.
Laura Varner, a senior at Wausau West High School, has been selected as the September Scholar of the Month by Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C.
Ms. Varner is ranked first in her class of 403. Her teachers note that Laura enjoys learning and initiates active classroom discussion with her inquisitive nature. Outside the classroom, Laura participates in many community service projects with the National Honor Society, as well as her youth group. She is also a member of the girl’s varsity soccer team.
“Laura’s future goals include college with a major in teaching,” explains Susan Clairmore-Dix, Director of Counseling at Wausau West High School. “She hopes to work in a Spanish-speaking country to help those less fortunate than her. Her experiences on a mission trip this summer solidified her goals of teaching and working with youth.”
“She is an extremely giving young lady,” says Clairmore-Dix. “We think she exemplifies the type of student that Bremer & Trollop Law Offices are proud to recognize with this honor.”

Joseph, who is ranked at the top of his class, is recognized by John Boulanger, Guidance Director, as a “mature, intelligent young man who’s been involved in a wide range of school and community activities. He’s exhibited excellent leadership skills as drum major and trumpet section leader in both our band and jazz band. He’s been in Spanish Club for four years and takes part in a variety of community groups.” Joseph has participated in mission trips for the last four years and has earned distinction as an Eagle Scout — serving as the Senior Patrol Leader in the Northwoods Challenge for the last three years.

Pete Lewandowski, a chemistry teacher and Science Chair at Antigo High School, notes, “Tyler exemplifies the qualities of a leading scholar. He is the top student of his class and has made exceptional achievements in our rigorous college preparatory program.” Tyler is also recognized for his leadership skills, inquisitive nature and work ethic. “Tyler is a leader because he can follow directions or work to figure it out on his own. Because of this students frequently look to him for help — and he truly helps them understand, rather than just giving them the answers,” adds Lewandowski.

Kara is the top-ranked student in her class of 324 who excels not only in the classroom, but in athletics and music as well. An Advanced Placement National Scholar, she has received numerous music awards for flute and piano, has been involved in the Wisconsin School Music Association’s High School Honors Band for four years and has been a member of the Marshfield cross country for four years. She also serves as treasurer of Marshfield’s National Honor Society, has been involved with the Science Olympiad for three years and is active in Student Council, Spanish Honor Society and Green Team.
Vera Marine, Marshfield Senior High School Counselor, notes that Kara, “challenges herself by setting lofty goals and then perseveres until she obtains them. Focused, mature and kind, she is well-liked by her peers and faculty.” Jenessa A. Bonikowske, Communication Arts and Advanced Placement Instructor adds, “Kara’s inquisitive mind and persistent work ethic distinguish her from her peers. Lindsey Drake, a senior at Mosinee Senior High School, has been selected as the February Scholar of the Month by Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C.
Lindsey is an Honors student at Mosinee High School. “Lindsey not only competes with the best students, but her ability to set academic goals, manage her time and maximize her experiences set her among the finest students I have had the privilege to teach in my twenty-six years,” notes Dick Lind, AP Physics teacher. Lind also notes that Lindsey’s intensity compels her to seek knowledge outside the classroom — and bring new questions to the classroom. “Through her questioning the learning environment becomes richer for all involved. I have become a better teacher because of her presence in my classroom.”
Lindsey is also noted for her leadership role within the classroom, as a member of the National Honor Society, as an athlete and as a volunteer in community organizations. As a leader, notes Lind, she is exceptional. “She helps her coworkers to extend their own abilities by setting an example of excellence and offering assistance to others who wish to achieve at a higher level. Others can, and do, rely on Lindsey for help — because as important as academic achievement is to Lindsey, the relationships she has with her peers are paramount.”

Tom Dobbins, a senior at Rhinelander Senior High School, has been selected as the January Scholar of the Month by Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C. Bob Heideman, Rhinelander High School Counselor and Tom’s tennis coach for the past four years, notes that, “Tom has proven himself to be a first rate scholar, a well-rounded athlete and a concerned citizen.” A student in the Advanced Placement curriculum, Tom “is a scholar whose academic achievements run the greatest width and breadth — he excesl in each academic area and often sets the curve,” adds Heideman.
Tom is also a varsity member of three sports — tennis, hockey and cross country. He has participated in all three sports for four years — a “remarkable accomplishment given the two-a-day workouts, year round training and late nights required of an athlete in a conference as large as ours,” adds Heideman. “The energy and endurance it takes to do that is incredible.”
Tom is also an Eagle Scout — an acknowledged leader who led 20 people in a landscaping project for Habitat for Humanity.

Notes Shawn Umland, Marketing Instructor and DECA Advisor at Lakeland Union, “her desire to excel, her human relations skills and her thirst to take on challenges” are what make her an exceptional person. Active in both sports and DECA, an association of marketing students, Umland commends Valerie for her “intellectual talents, sense of humor, outstanding work and impeccable sense of responsibility. Matthew was selected based upon his exceptional academic performance and his involvement with both school and community organizations. Susan Clairmore-Dix, Director of Counseling at Wausau West High School, notes, “Matthew is a young man who wants to know the ‘why.’ He asks questions, generates discussion among his peers and searches out answers. He thrives in classes where dialogue with peers and teachers is primary. And his respect and acceptance for others and their opinions and thoughts — even if different than his — shines through.”

of the Wausau West soccer team since his freshman year, played Intramural Basketball and for the past three years has been involved with Link Crew — a freshman orientation program.

She is in her second term as DECA president, has competed at the state level all four years of her high school career, and has participated at nationals twice.

He has been recently been accepted into the Anapolis Naval Academy.

To be eligible for this recognition, the Bremer & Trollop Scholar of the Month must be a senior and be selected by his or her instructors based on the quality of the work that has been completed in the core curricular areas. “Amber can express herself orally and in written work at the highest levels when compared to her classmates,” comments an instructor at DC Everest. “She is persistent in the pursuit of knowledge and will help others achieve success if she can.”

Katie has been chosen by her instructors at Stevens Point Area Senior High for her achievements in academic excellence. As part of the Scholar of the Month program, Katie will receive a scholarship from Bremer & Trollop Law Offices, to be awarded at the close of the 2007-2008 school year.
Among her many achievements, Katie is currently ranked as the top student in her class, carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. Katie participates in several extracurricular activities at SPASH, including National Honor Society, Key Club, and Student Senate. In addition to her outstanding academic record and participation in school activities, Katie is actively involved in a number of school and community concert choirs.
Katie is the daughter of Gary Magee and Joni Smith, of Stevens Point, WI.

Chantal participates in several extracurricular activities at Lakeland Union High School including National Honor Society, Key Club, Pep Band, and Drama. In addition to her outstanding academic record and participation in school activities, Chantal is actively involved in the greater Lakeland Community as a member of the community band, mentoring middle school students at one of the local grade schools, and volunteering her time with several Kiwanis Club projects.
