Four Hospitalized After Spencer Accident

A crash north of Marshfield injured four on Wednesday, August 20.  At about 3:15 p.m., a Chevy Malibu containing three young women crossed the Highway 153 center line near East Avenue in Stratford.  The Malibu collided nearly head-on with a pickup truck driven by a 74-year-old man.  All four involved were transported from the scene to Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital.  The three females, ages 12-17, were treated and released, but the man remains hospitalized for his injuries.  Spencer police are continuing their investigation of the accident.

One Arrested in Crash that Injures Four

One man was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated after a single vehicle collision on Interstate 39 in Stevens Point.  Around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, a 2001 Chevy minivan lost control in the southbound lane of I-39 before crashing into trees off-road near the Division Street exit.  Four of the five passengers were taken to Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point with injuries ranging from minor to serious.  The Portage County Sheriff's Department is still investigating the accident, but states that speed an alcohol were factors in the crash.

Spencer Collision Injures Two

A crash at South Pacific Avenue and East Clark Street in Spencer caused injury to two people on the evening of Friday, August 15.  A Spencer police officer was on-duty, traveling in his squad car to respond to a different collision on Highway 13 in Unity when he was injured in an accident with another vehicle.  The driver of the other vehicle was also injured, and both were transferred by Spencer Fire Department ambulance to Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.  The Marathon County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crash.

Two Killed, One Injured in Wood County Crash

Two people have now died as a result of a crash last Wednesday, August 6, in Wood County.  According to officials at the Wood County Sheriff's Department, a truck pulling a trailer hit a car at the intersection of County C and County F in the Town of Sigel, north of Wisconsin Rapids.  The passenger of the car, Ruth Ruder, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  The car's driver, Linda Knapp, was hospitalized in critical condition after the collision.  She has now died. The truck driver also suffered injuries.  The crash is still under investigation.

Two Injured, Highway Closed in Three-Vehicle Crash

Two people sustained serious injuries as a result of a three-vehicle crash in Shawano County.  The collision caused Wisconsin Highway 22 near Freeborn Road in the Town of Washington to be closed for several hours.  The initial investigation into the accident showed that a passenger car struck a farm tractor and trailer, and then a motorcycle crashed into the two vehicles.  The motorcycle operator was transported to Shawano Medical Center before being airlifted to St. Vincent's Hospital.  The farm tractor operator was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital by ambulance.

Josiah Kleist's claims against the Wisconsin Rapids School District have resolved. Kleist, who is deaf, legally blind and suffers from a movement disorder, filed claims against school district in the Western District of Wisconsin federal court, alleging he was targeted by his Lincoln High School wrestling teammates as a victim of bullying, sexual and verbal abuse and harassment during the 2010-11 school year.

Pedestrian Hit by Semi Truck

A pedestrian hit by a semi-truck Saturday morning has died.  A semi-truck hit a pedestrian on WIS 29 Eastbound at Hiline Avenue in Abbotsford.  The pedestrian was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, but later died from injuries.  The Marathon County Sheriffs' Department is still investigating the crash.
