Portage County Roll Over Accident Causes Injuries

A car rolled over on Highway 34 just after 4:00 p.m. Sunday near the Town of Rudolph, causing two injuries.  A 16-year-old driver was traveling southbound, with his 10-year-old brother in the passenger seat.  Witnesses saw the vehicle roll several times after the driver tried to pass other cars on the highway.  Officials say neither the driver or passenger were wearing seatbelts.  Portage County Sheriff’s officials say one person was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Marshfield, while the other was taken there by ambulance.

Accidents that are the fault of one family member and result in an injury to another family member riding as a passenger in a vehicle are common.  Many families don’t understand they have automobile insurance to cover the damages, including medical bills and pain, suffered by the injured passenger.  In Wisconsin, the injured passenger can make a claim against the insurance company covering the driver, without making a claim or filing any type of lawsuit against the driver directly.  If you or a family member have been injured in an accident, call Bremer & Trollop Law Offices for a free consultation at 877-949-3200.  We have offices in Wausau, Stevens Point, Marshfield, Antigo and Minocqua.  Home or hospital visits are available as well and your call and meeting is free.

Unfortunate accidents such as the one described above present some common questions we are often asked.  One question is whether an injured person (or family of a deceased person) must “sue” their driver, who might be a friend or family member.  The answer to that question is “no” because the claim can be brought directly against the automobile insurance carrier for the driver, without making any claim against the driver personally.  Another question involves the failure to use a safety belt and how that impacts a claim.  In Wisconsin, a person bringing an injury or wrongful death claim involving the lack of a safety belt does not face a possible total dismissal of their case.  Instead, if the liability insurance company can prove the lack of a safety belt caused the person’s damages, the damages are reduced by a maximum of 15%.  Questions such as these and many others are why you should immediately contact a plaintiffs’ personal injury attorney if your family member was the victim of a wrongful death accident.  Call Bremer & Trollop Law Offices at 877-949-3200 for a free consultation.

Bremer Muggli from the Inauguration: The speech, the ball, the experience

I write today, tired from an incredible four days of inaugural celebrations but energized by the words of our president in his inaugural address to the nation.

The members of the Electoral College, by tradition, sit directly in front of the president during his speech.

It was exhilarating.

The president’s speech was the best explanation of the basis of his political philosophy we have heard.

From the Inauguration: Bremer Muggli writes from Washington

As we sit in front of the presidential podium at the inaugural, I remember President Barack Obama’s words: this inaugural is a time to celebrate each other and our great nation.

It is easy to find ways to argue and find differences over the direction of our country. But not today.

For a brief moment, we come together and witness the workings of our constitutional government.
